The HML Board of Directors convened for their quarterly virtual meeting and made significant strides, taking the following actions:
- Financial Status: Reviewed the financial status of the League with a need to develop a long-term plan for economic stability. The primary source of income is membership dues. Board members are nominating new members and pursuing sponsorships.
- Annual Meeting: Due to major expenses and limited membership attendance, a task force was established to review options for an in-person annual event. Members are Carl Hermanns, Jimmy Minichello, Maria Armstrong, Matthew Krise, Ray Sanchez, Ruben Alejandro, Gregg, Fuerstenau, and Jeanne Deweese (chair).
- Recruitment of New Members: Board members are nominating members and looking at ways to increase state-level membership. Consider offering graduate students in Educational Leadership programs about possible membership in the League on a trial plan.
- Board of Directors Appointed. The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathleen Hurley, an esteemed author and long-time contributor to the League. Her wealth of experience and insights will undoubtedly enrich our discussion processes and decision-making.
- Recognition of Outstanding Leaders: Consideration of a plan to recognize superintendents for outstanding leadership in public education. HML would like to acknowledge Champions of Public Education. The Board is nominating and seeking ways to collect nominations for monthly or periodical public acknowledgment.
- Privatization of education: A committee consisting of David Berliner, Carl Hermanns (chair), Bill Mathis, Brooke Olsen-Farrell, and Andi Fourlis will consider developing a toolkit with talking points for members to use when communicating about the importance of public schools.
