Gregg Fuerstenau

Dr. has 41 years of educational experience that began as a Kindergarten teacher & head basketball coach in South Dakota. He spent 9 years as a classroom teacher and he began his 32-year administrative career as a K-8 principal at Red Cloud Indian School located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Dr. Fuerstenau has been a superintendent for 28 years serving districts in South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois. He has spent the last 18 years in Illinois and is currently the Superintendent of the Litchfield School District in Litchfield, IL. During Dr. Fuerstenau’s career, he has served on the Iowa State Superintendent’s School Budget Review Committee and Finance Advisory Board. He also served as an adjunct professor for the University of Northern Iowa in its educational leadership department. Dr. Fuerstenau was involved with funding advocacy work and the eventual legislative adoption of the Evidence-Based Funding formula in Illinois. Dr. Fuerstenau has a strong background in finance and construction. He has led successful referendums and construction projects in the districts he has served. His entire administrative career has been student-centered. Recently he has initiated a literacy program for the district to improve student reading. Dr. Fuerstenau and his wife Shelley reside in Taylorville, IL, and have 2 grown children.
