Founded in 1922, the Horace Mann League of the USA is an honorary association of educational leaders who stand united in a singular belief: that a free, universal public school system is indispensable to American democracy.
For over one hundred years, our members—including courageous superintendents, distinguished professors, and visionary school officers—have dedicated themselves to perpetuating the timeless ideals of Horace Mann. We believe that public schools must remain free, classless, non-sectarian, and open to all children of all people. Through sound leadership, proactive advocacy, and rigorous research, we transform these historical principles into modern actions that safeguard the future of public learning.
